Programme Overview
The University of Malaya caters the strong demand for biomedical manpower and among the forefront in any academic institution in Malaysia to expand biomedical knowledge. The prime objective of this program is to impart advanced knowledge and training in various areas of Biomedical Engineering to the students with quality standard of education process.
Prominent lecturers impose an uncompromising quality in research and teaching through lectures and practical in the programs. The postgraduate engineering courses are moderated by prominent academics from abroad. The UM Faculty of Engineering's reputation in training quality engineers and experts is obvious from the demand for its graduates by various industries in Malaysia and abroad.
Entry Requirements
Language Requirements
International students following postgraduate programmes in the University of Malaya are required to attend and pass the Bahasa Malaysia course before the degree can be conferred.
The minimum level for the English proficiency for postgraduate candidates is IELTS band 6 or a TOEFL score of 550 if they obtained their Bachelor’s degree from a university in which the medium of instruction is a language other than English.
Entry Requirements
1) Bachelor Degree in Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Engineering);
OR
2) Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences (Medicine, Biology & Medicine) or its
equivalent;
OR
3) Other qualifications approved by Senate from time to time.
Note :
- Preference will be given to applicants having a Bachelor’s Degree with
CGPA 3.0 and above or its equivalent.
- Applicants having a Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA 3.7 and above can apply
directly for the PhD programme.
- International applicants are required to obtain a score of at least 550 for
TOEFL or Band 6 for IELTS.
Programme Structure
Candidates are required to complete the compulsory coursework prepared by the Faculty, and any electives chosen by the candidate. At the end of the period of study, a dissertation must be submitted. Upon successful defense of the dissertation, the candidate will be awarded a Master degree.
Candidates are required to complete their studies within 8 semesters.
